Why Visit Bhutan?

Nestled in the Himalayas, Bhutan is a country where happiness is measured, prayer flags dance in the wind, and time moves at its own peaceful pace. With its deep-rooted spirituality, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality, Bhutan is an ideal destination for Indian travelers looking for a unique international getaway.

Is a Visa Required for Indians?

No, Indian nationals do not need a visa to enter Bhutan. However, an Entry Permit is required, which can be obtained at:

  1. Paro International Airport (for those arriving by air).
  2. Phuentsholing Border (for those entering by road).

Entry Requirements:

  • Valid Passport (recommended) or Voter ID Card
  • Passport-sized photographs
  • Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) – INR 1,200 per day (INR 600 for children 5-11 years)

How to Travel to Bhutan from India

By Air: Direct flights to Paro from Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, and Bagdogra (operated by Druk Air & Bhutan Airlines).
By Road: Drive to Phuentsholing via Jaigaon (near Siliguri, West Bengal).
By Train: The nearest railway station is Hasimara (17 km from Phuentsholing). Other options include New Jalpaiguri & New Cooch Behar stations.

Currency & Payments

  • Indian Rupees (INR) are accepted in Bhutan. However, ₹2,000 notes may not be widely accepted.
  • Credit cards are not commonly used in rural areas, so carrying cash is recommended.

Best Time to Visit Bhutan

  • Spring (March–May) – Blooming flowers, clear skies, and ideal hiking conditions.
  • Autumn (September–November) – Pleasant weather and the best time for sightseeing.
  • Winter (December–February) – Snow-capped mountains and fewer tourists.
  • Monsoon (June–August) – Heavy rainfall but lush landscapes.
