Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival at Phuentsholing

Fly into Bagdogra airport, or travel by train to NJP, Alipur or Hashimara, or travel
from Darjeeling, Gangtok and Kalimpong
Cross border to reach Phuentsholing and check-in hotel.
Visit Zangto Pelri Lhakhang and Phuentsholing town market
Stroll through the market in the evening
Overnight in Phuentsholing

Day 02: Phuentsholing – Thimphu (165 Km/5 hrs.)

Complete immigration formalities and drive to Thimphu
En-route visit Rinchending monastery (Kharbandi Gompa) and stop in villages and scenic spots
Take a walking tour in capital city visiting Thimphu Dzong, Bhutanese Crafts market (ABC Market) and Clock Tower Square area
Overnight in Thimphu

Day 03: In Thimphu

Full day tour of Thimphu’s cultural sites and monuments
Visit National Memorial Chorten, Buddha Dordenma, Jungshi handmade paper factory, Simply Bhutan Museum, Motithang Takin Preserve, National Institute of Zorig Chusum (Painting school)
Drive to a viewpoint for aerial view of the capital, its suburbs and Tashichho Dzong
Optional visits to Changangkha monastery, Simtokha Dzong, Textile Museum, Druk Wangyal Lhakhang, Farmer’s Market (more vibrant during the weekends)
Overnight in Thimphu

Day 04: Thimphu – Punakha/Wangdue (85 Km/2-3 hrs.)

Drive from Thimphu to Punakha across Dochula pass (3,050m) with opportunity to view the peaks of the eastern Himalayas
Visit Richengang village and Chimi Lhakhang temple
Visit impressive Punakha Dzong at the confluence of Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers
Stop to visit the township of Punakha at Khuruthang
Optional visit to Wangdi-Richengang Village
Overnight in Punakha

Day 05: Punakha to Paro (130 Km/3-4 hrs.)

Drive and walk to Khamsum Chorten on Nyenzangang hill for views of terraced rice fields, traditional houses, river and valley surrounded by mountains
Return drive to Thimphu retracing Dochula Pass
Continue drive to Paro and visit Rinpung Dzong, National Museum, temples of Kichu and Dungtse, local home and stroll around the township
Optional river rafting/kayaking in one of Punakha rivers (1.5-2hrs.)
Overnight in Paro

Day 06: Paro Valley (Taktsang Hike)

Hike to famous Taktsang (tiger’s nest) monastery (3120m/10,200ft)
Optional pony ride for uphill part till first viewpoint & cafeteria
Stroll around Paro town
Optional excursion to Chele La Pass (highest motorable road in Bhutan) for views of Mt. Jumolhari, Jichu Drake and Haa Valley
